Head Coach And Owner
Frank Cisternino
Owner/Head Coach Frank Cisternino has been CrossFitting for five years and specialises in CrossFit, strength and conditioning, sport-specific training, nutrition and weight loss. He’s passionate about coaching and training. “Being able to do what you love as a job and in turn help others in the process is the best,” he says. “It doesn’t get
much better than that. For that one hour, I can make a difference in a person’s life—that’s why I love what I do!”
Frank has always been active. “Playing sports has been a huge part of my life—whether it’s football, cricket, basketball, or athletics,” he says. “Through my sports, going to the gym became a crucial part of my training and that’s where the love began. It has been part of my life ever since, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Frank’s been in the fitness industry for nearly 20 years, and started as a gym instructor back when they existed; then personal training and group fitness soon followed. “Always wanting to learn more and better myself, I started to explore different ways of training,” he says. “It was during this time I became very good friends with another trainer, and now business partner, Dan, and we decided to start up our own BootCamp business. With our BootCamp business going really well and CrossFit becoming such a big part of our training, it was time to take the next BIG step—so we opened our own CrossFit Box, and it has been the best thing I have ever done.”
A firm believer that your only limit is you, Frank enjoys chillaxing with family and friends when he’s not in the gym. Fun facts: He is an electrician by trade, and played the drums as a youngster.

Owner, Coach and WAG Nutrition Coach
Dan Lempriere
Coach Dan Lempriere has more than 25 years of experience in strength training and 20 years of experience as a personal trainer, Crossfit/functional fitness coach, nutrition coach and massage therapist. A CrossFitter for eight years, Dan specialises in rehabilitation, nutrition, mobility and injury prevention and personalised programming.
He Ioves learning and passing his knowledge onto others. “I love learning new things, which is why I love CrossFit so much,” he says. “There is always a new skill or lesson to be learnt. Being involved with CrossFit and being an affiliate owner has opened me up to a large range of disciplines that are required for CrossFit workouts and for the running of an affiliate. I am also passionate about sharing that knowledge, so as to help others and have a positive influence on their lives.”
Always sports-oriented, Dan became involved in little athletics from an early age. “Later in life, my sport was predominantly Australian Rules Football; however, I have also been involved in a large variety of other sports including, basketball, water sports, boxing/kickboxing and fun runs. My sport of choice now is CrossFit.”
Dan was a Personal Trainer at a Fitness First in the city for nine years, and found that he was getting good results from incorporating CrossFit workouts into both his clients’ and his own training. “I got fed up with both the lack of functional equipment available at the time to perform these workouts as prescribed and the constant fighting with members during peak times for the use of equipment when needed,” he says. “This led to myself and my business partner opening up our own CrossFit affiliate, back in 2012, so we could deliver a better training environment for our clients.”

Coach
Jerram Newton
Coach Jerram Newton has been CrossFitting for four years, and is passionate about coaching. “We’re in the game of general population fitness, so a huge passion for me is seeing those everyday people achieve something that didn’t think possible,” he says. “Whether it’s their first pull up, push up on their toes, or even completing their
first WOD, CrossFit takes the goals away from weight loss or getting big guns and makes them performance based. I’m passionate about making people fitter and stronger, the ascetic change is just a bi product of that.”
Jerram has played most sports, but hasn’t really excelled at any of them. “Jack of all trades, master of none,” he says. “I’ve been working in the Fitness industry for over ten years, predominantly in the Commercial ‘big box’ clubs. A couple of years ago, I stumbled across this ‘new’ type of training. I started as an Intern at CrossFit 224 back in April 2013, and have been part of the 224 family ever since.”
When he’s not in the gym, Jerram is hanging out with his future wife and son. His favourite inspirational quote: “If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change!”

Coach
Bradley Lennie
Coach Bradley Lennie has been a CrossFitter for five years and specialises in strength and movement. “I love helping people move better and become strong,” he says. “Helping them achieve a PB or a movement that they thought they would never get is awesome.”As an athlete, Bradley played field hockey,
basketball and football—and later coached Victorian State side to a gold medal at nationals. Frustrated with not being challenged at a regular gym, he turned to CrossFit while also working as a physical therapist. “I went to the Filex Expo in 2012 and saw the Fit bloke and Fit Chick Challenge,” he says, “then spent most of the weekend watching the challenge. When we came back, my wife and I found the closest CrossFit box and never looked back.”
Bradley’s path wasn’t easy. “When I started, I had the worst mobility and it took me 18 months to be able to overhead squat properly,” he says. “The first class after foundations, Fran was programmed. I did the workout at 15kg, finished my first set of 21 thrusters, and Chris Medcraft yelled time at 2:23. Half the class stopped to double check they heard it correctly. It took me another 12 minutes 30 to finish the workout.”
His favourite motivational quote: “Treat light weights like they are heavy weights, the heavy weights will go up a lot easier.” -Ed Coan

Coach
Dr Rob Barker
Coach Rob Barker is relatively new to CrossFitting and specialises in nutrition and mobility. “I enjoy helping people stay fit and healthy, so they can enjoy every day to the fullest,” he says. “The sense of community and watching people grow both as individuals and as a group in the gym is the best part.”
Rob’s athletic background was not remarkable, “beyond staying fit and active. Originally, I worked at a construction company. Soon after, I changed direction and completed a degree in conservation biology and ecology. It was during this time that I broke my ankle and started attending a gym for rehabilitation—and started down my new career path as a skeletal muscle physiologist.” Eventually, he drove down Hood Street, where he found 224 and didn’t look back.
When he’s not CrossFitting, Rob is usually travelling, surfing, fishing, hiking, snowboarding, bike riding or golfing. He lives by the saying, “Never apologise for good fortune.”

As an athlete, Joel has won a state bodybuilding title and served as a state soccer representative.
He spent four years developing himself as a CrossFitter, and finally felt ready to pass on his experience to others as a coach.

Coach
Domonic Calderan
Coach Domonic Calderan has been a CrossFitter for four years and specialises in delivering our Basics Class. “Introducing people to CrossFit is pretty special, setting them on the right path before they join our big clan, and I also Iike to have a little fun,” he says. “Since getting my CF-L1, coaching has become more about watching the
athletes succeed, working with someone to conquer a new movement or hitting that elusive PR. It’s hard to describe, but watching others achieve their goals is a magic feeling – that alone pushes me more to achieve my own goals.”
Domonic has played sports since childhood—from football and basketball to cricket, athletics has always been part of his life. “Now it’s giving back to my kids, helping out their sporting adventures,” he says. He became a coach when one day, he simply decided to stop making excuses on why he had no time to look after himself. “I took up CrossFit to get some structure in my life, and take back my health,” he says. “Along the way, I enjoyed the CF224 family so much, I decided to give coaching a go in order to pass on tips and advice to people going through the same challenges of taking their lives back through fitness.”
When not in the gym, Domonic enjoys getting outside, traveling, and spending time with his family. “I love going to the footy to watch the Demons and taking my boys to Melbourne Victory matches.” He also loves beer and burgers.

Coach
Marcus DiSipio
Coach Marcus DiSipio has been CrossFitting for four years and specialises in weightlifting and CrossFit WODs. “I love being part of such a vibrant, global CrossFit community,” he says. “I’m passionate about helping people improve their health and fitness, including building mental toughness through CrossFit, which I believe has
the ability to permeate and lead to success in general life,” he says. “I love seeing progression with members that work consistently on all and any of their CrossFit movements.”
As an athlete, Marcus has played basketball, and participated in cross-country running and other athletics for much of his schooling life. “I’ve spent a large amount of time training in Olympic weightlifting,” he says. “I’ve been coaching ever since I have been old enough to complete my Level 1 course (17 years old),” he says. “From beginning CrossFit, I have believed in its ability to maximise health and fitness for everyday people, and wanted to share my knowledge and perspective with as many people as possible.” He began coaching at CrossFit Maribyrnong.
Marcus believes that success is the sum of your efforts, day in and day out. In his spare time, he enjoys playing with puppies, going on adventures, and “eating everything.”

Coach
Felipe Coelho
Coach Felipe has always been into sports since he was a kid and spent great part of his childhood and adolescence playing and competing in soccer and volleyball but it was only in 2015, back in Brazil, after getting tired of training at conventional gyms that he started at Crossfit and has been doing it ever since. “When I moved to Melbourne in the start of 2018 the first thing I did, even before finding a place to live, was finding a CrossFit gym. And I was lucky enough to find VLT. I started CrossFit to help me treat some depression and anxiety problems that I was going through. Being able to pass that along and help people with their problems, whether it’s physical or mental is what inspire me the most to coach. When I’m not at the gym I’m either drinking coffee or making it. Working as barista is a great passion of mine. It might sound cliche but the quote “happy but hungry” is something that I really relate to and it’s actually in my alarm clock every morning. I’m thankful for all that I have now but always excited to improve, learn and accomplish more.”

Coach
Dr Michael Maljanek
Coach Michael Maljanek is a chiropractor and has been CrossFitting for six years. He’s passionate about optimising the nervous system, to increase performance through chiropractic, CrossFit, and nutrition. Coaching is a natural extension of his commitment to total wellbeing. “I love seeing people accomplishing their first push, pull up or
chin up,” he says. “I enjoy seeing people noticing results that they thought were unattainable.”
Michael has played Premier League Soccer, and was involved in four championship teams. He won top goal scorer in the league, best & fairest in the league and the Golden Boot many times for various clubs. He came to CrossFit through a patient. “One of my first chiropractic patients, a former SAS soldier, told me he does CrossFit,” he says.” He introduced me to Fran. I immediately had a love/hate relationship with her but, I was hooked ever since.”
When he’s not being a chiropractor or coaching at the gym, Michael spends time with his family, goes mountain biking with his dog, volunteers with Hume City Broncos State Championship Teams, and does anything athletic whenever he has an opportunity.
His favourite motivational saying is: “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than the unsuccessful (person) with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. PERSISTENCE AND DETERMINATION ALONE ARE OMNIPOTENT.”

Coach
Kelly Cameron
Coach Kelly Cameron has been a CrossFitter for five years—and has spent two of those years as an Olympic weightlifter. “What I enjoy most about CrossFit is the keen sense of community and the camaraderie,” she says. “In my experience, no other sports have people supported and shared in each other’s achievements as much as CrossFit.
I enjoy motivating people to see what’s possible and be the best they can be. I also enjoy watching someone grow and motivate and educate them in a fun environment and always with a smile. Skills and technique are important to me.”
Kelly has always led a very active life, participating in many fun runs, mountain bike races, motorbike trail riding, snowboarding, wakeboarding and climbing Kilimanjaro. At 17, she won a basketball scholarship for professional coaching and played in many team sports. “Now, as a full-time firefighter with the MFB, I’ve competed in many stair climb events like the Eureka climb three times,” she says. “The biggest honor was climbing the new Trade Centre Tower in NYC in 2016, wearing full turn out (23kg including BA), in memory of all the fallen firefighters from 9/11. In 2013, I won Gold in the Victorian Police and Emergency Services Games in the event ‘Toughest Competitor Alive.’” She currently holds national records in the snatch, clean & jerk and total in her age and weight division. In 2017, Kelly represented Australia at the World Masters Games in New Zealand, bringing home silver.
